Pregnant and alone

Discovering you’re pregnant can bring on a whirlwind of emotions. Everything from happiness to fear comes to mind. Being with someone can result in different feelings versus if you’re alone or single. A woman may find herself alone or single during pregnancy for a variety of reasons including not being in a relationship, the child’s father not wanting anything to do with the baby, or a spouse dying. Regardless of the woman’s situation, finding support during pregnancy can make this new journey less stressful. Here are some ways to help find support when you’re feeling alone or anxious during your pregnancy.

Create your support system

Your loved ones or people close to you are the best kind of people to have in your corner. Leaning on a family member, close friend, coworker, church member or neighbor can help you feel less alone during pregnancy. You can even ask them to join you for appointments or birthing classes to help on your journey to becoming a new mom.

Find other single, pregnant moms

Finding other women going through the same experience as you can help. They understand what you’re going through and can help during the challenging times of pregnancy and once the baby is here. You can find these women by searching for groups in your community or on social media. You can also ask your doctor.

Look for Nonprofits

Join a religious organization or charity group in your neighborhood. You’ll meet new people and be able to offer assistance to others, helping forget your loneliness for a while. Also look for nonprofits that can provide aid for single pregnant mothers, such as Options for Pregnancy or pregnancy centers.

An unplanned pregnancy can be very scary, especially if you feel alone. But knowing you have options for support can help combat this loneliness. This isn’t something you have to do by yourself and there are a variety of resources to reach out to for help, including Options for
