In her new book, Jamie Lynn Spears reveals her parents, Jamie and Lynn Spears, pressured her to have an abortion when she as pregnant at age 16.
In her memoir, she describes her feelings during her pregnancy. “There’s a human being growing inside of me, and I’m so young, I’m almost a baby myself.” She didn’t want an abortion but her parents claimed having her baby would “ruin her career”.
It would seem as if pregnancy ruined her career. Shortly after the news of her pregnancy was known, her Nickelodeon show Zoey 101 ended. Many blamed her teenage pregnancy as the reason the show ended. However, that was completely false. The show ended because the storyline had ran its course and the show had ended filming before Jamie Lynn knew she was pregnant.
Jamie Lynn made her choice despite the recommendations of her parents. And in hindsight, perhaps not listening to her parents and choosing what she thought was best for her was the best decision considering the uncovering of abuse her older sister, Britney Spears has revealed in her very public conservatorship.
Jamie Lynn also refused to put her daughter up for adoption. And in addition she chose to raise her daughter in privacy. Jamie Lynn stepped out of the spotlight and into her new role as a mother. Her only regret? Her mother essentially putting her into hiding during her pregnancy were she was unable to tell those close to her what she was going through.
